Douglas Lake is located among the rolling uplands of
the Great Valley of east Tennessee. Set against the
backdrop of the lush, green Smoky Mountain foothills,
Douglas Lake attracts two million recreational
visitors a year. Picnicking, camping, boating, and
fishing are all popular activities at the lake.
Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and about 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities.
Shoreline: Only about 17 percent of the shoreline is developed; the remainder is controlled by the TVA. Rolling hills of farmland and residential areas surround the lake.
The water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 41 feet in a normal year. The lake is at full pool June 1 through Labor Day. TVA, precipitation and the weather all affect the level of Douglas Lake.

Douglas Lake, also called Douglas Reservoir, is an artificial lake created by an impoundment of the French Broad River in East Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The lake is situated only a few miles from the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Douglas Dam was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority in the early 1940s to control flooding in the Tennessee Valley and provide electricity to rural areas in the region.The dam is located just over 32 miles (51 km) upstream from the French Broad's confluence with the Holston River at Knoxville, and its reservoir spans a 40-mile (64 km) stretch of the river between the dam and the Irish Bottoms area near Newport.
