Our Sevierville Cabin
The first couple of times we visited the Smoky
Mountains we didn’t do all the regular touristy
things. Our visits were dedicated to looking for the
perfect Smoky Mountains property to purchase. Like
anyone, we were excited and nervous to be thinking
about purchasing a vacation home...it’s a big leap of
faith. We knew we wanted to have a lakefront cabin
because we just love boating, waterskiing, and
fishing.
Let me back up a bit and explain how we decided on Tennessee. We took a boating vacation to Center Hill Lake, two years before and we all had a wonderful time on that vacation. When my husband proclaimed he didn’t think about work once, I knew if we ever purchased a vacation home I wanted it to be in Tennessee and on a lake. So about a year after that vacation, we started researching Lakes in Tennessee. All the lakes in Tennessee had something about them that seemed fitting, but sadly the prices for housing around most of them were way out of our reach. After much research about the different areas of Tennessee we found that the Smoky Mountains area had a lake called Lake Douglas. This area was not only a place we could go boating, but there were many other activities in the area too.
We did much of our lake research on the internet and learned that a lot of the Tennessee lake water levels fluctuated. Those that did not were way too expensive for us. So we planned a trip to go hunting for our vacation rental cabin in the Smoky Mountains. We visited many Tennessee lakes but ultimately settled on Douglas Lake because it was the only lake that had anything in our price range.
